The St. John the Beloved Choir is an ensemble of both professional and volunteer men and women that perform at Mass each week and for special musical and religious events for the parish. While primarily a traditional, classical choir singing great works spanning the Renaissance through the 21st century, the group also performs a wide range of styles and genres including some Gospel, Contemporary, and World Music selections.
The SJB Choir has performed Lessons and Carols, Taizé services, and special concert events of great works including Vivaldi’s
Gloria, Stainer’s
Crucifixion, Rutter’s
Requiem, the Brahms
Requiem, Vaughan Williams’
Five Mystical Songs and Lizst’s
Via Crucis. The choir rehearses once weekly except in July and sings at one Mass on Sundays. A smaller Schola sings at a second Mass once per month. Membership is open to all with no audition.
